Job Description

Do you want to help create a safe and secure Greenland? Are you good at communicating and navigating different environments? Can you work independently and take responsibility? Then maybe you are our new member coordinator! About us Greenland Guardians is a voluntary reporting service where citizens of Greenland can become members and help report persons in distress, suspicious activity and environmental pollution. The purpose is to increase safety in Greenland and contribute to us taking better care of each other and our nature. The Greenland Guards are part of the Arctic Command, which contributes to surveillance, sovereignty enforcement and search and rescue (SAR). The Greenland Guardians are part of the section for civilian-military cooperation (J9) and the section consists, in addition to you, of a leader of the Greenland Guardians, a research coordinator and a chief. We work together on a daily basis, and you therefore get a handful of close colleagues. Although Greenland Guardians was established in 2021, we are still in a development phase where we are working on further developing our digital platforms and strengthening our presence in Greenland through events, courses and tours. About the position As member coordinator, you will have a central role in developing and strengthening the Greenland Guardians. Your work will be crucial in terms of engaging the population of Greenland, and you will, in collaboration with our IT developers and the command's operations center, help to ensure that our reporting service functions optimally. Your tasks will include: Member contact and recruitment - you will play a significant role in our work to engage and recruit new Greenland guardians as well as maintain contact with current members - i.a. through our digital channels. Translation and communication - you can communicate clearly and precisely in writing and speech and you will ensure that information and materials are available in both Greenlandic and Danish, just as you will ensure that our posts on social media are available in both languages. Operation and administration - you will be responsible for updating our member database, answering inquiries and ensuring that our members get the necessary information and support. It requires a structured approach and good IT skills. Events and representation - in collaboration with our external partners, you will organize courses for our members, and you will participate in tours both in Greenland and Denmark, where you will represent the Greenland Guardians and the Arctic Command. You will be part of a committed team in Nuuk, where you will have a great influence on the development of the Greenland Guardians. The tasks are characterized by the international focus on developments in the Arctic region. A focus that is only expected to increase within the next few years. You will therefore become part of a workplace where you help create a safe Arctic, in collaboration with national and international partners. Akrtis is characterized by the fact that there is not far between the central decision-makers, which is exciting, but at the same time binding. About you The position requires a high degree of independence, flexibility and that you can work in a structured manner. You will find that you have a great influence on the Greenland guardians and our projects going forward. You will also have good opportunities to shape the content of your working day and influence how we will develop in the future. In addition, you will have good opportunities to develop yourself professionally through solving your tasks and in the daily collaboration with, among other things, Arctic Command's other employees and managers. It is a requirement that you both speak and write fluent Greenlandic. It will be considered an advantage if you have completed Arctic Preparedness training at Arctic Command. You must expect travel activity in connection with tours in Greenland and possible course activities in Denmark. Terms of employment You will be employed and paid in accordance with either the relevant collective agreement for civilian employees in Greenland or an individual contract. In addition, depending on your qualifications, it will be possible to negotiate supplements. An employer-funded pension scheme is attached to the position. Weekly working time is 40 hours. The position is for occupation per 1 May 2025. Accommodation will not be assigned for the appointment. As an employee of the Ministry of Defence's group, you are covered by some special conditions. About the Arctic Command The Arctic Command is an operational command with responsibility for all the Defense's deployments in the North Atlantic and the Arctic. The command's area of responsibility includes both Greenland and the Faroe Islands as well as surrounding sea areas. Arctic Command's mission is to protect the Kingdom in the Arctic. This entails the ability to handle crises and ultimately carry out military defense of Greenland and the Faroe Islands - in cooperation with other national and international headquarters. In the Arctic Command, we have deployed units from the Navy and the Air Force in operational control 24/7, which requires commitment and a Combined/Joint approach to the tasks. We carry out surveillance and assertion of sovereignty - all year round. At the same time, we solve a large number of important operational tasks, e.g. search and rescue service, environmental monitoring, fisheries inspection and support for civil society. This requires foresight and close cooperation with the state and military authorities in the countries neighboring Greenland and the Faroe Islands. If necessary, the Command can be reinforced by units from all defenses as well as the Home Guard, the Special Operations Command and the National Emergency Management Agency. Arctic Command has its headquarters in Nuuk, where approximately 60 employees currently work. In addition, the command has personnel in several locations on the east and west coast of Greenland, on the Faroe Islands and in Denmark. Arctic Command in Nuuk currently houses the American consulate in Greenland and personnel from the Danish Meteorological Institute.
