Job Description

The position as head physician at the Rigshospitalet's Department of Eye Diseases is available for occupation as of 1 July 2025 The Department of Eye Diseases at Rigshospitalet takes care of all hospital ophthalmology and all acute ophthalmology for the Capital Region and Greenland and is the center for the region's eye surgery and medical ophthalmology. The department has approx. 350 employees, including 106 doctors. Interdisciplinary collaboration is a central value in the department. The department consists of clinics at Rigshospitalet's Glostrup and Blegdam registry, Hillerød Hospital and the Kennedy Centre. The Department of Eye Diseases is also active at Bornholm Hospital and provides services to the Greenlandic Health Service both through telemedicine and through the organization of consulting trips. The department is strongly committed to developing processes that project professionalism very close to the patients in the primary healthcare system. Telemedicine solutions have been established on Bornholm, in Hillerød and throughout Greenland. Currently, the possibility of a strengthened collaboration with the optician industry through telemedicine referrals directly from optician shops to the department is being tested. The head doctor works closely with the department's experienced head nurse. The leadership group is made up of a clinic council, which consists of five senior doctors, a senior doctor responsible for education who heads the department's training organization, as well as the department's head nurses and senior opticians and the senior medical secretary. The department is administratively part of Rigshospitalet's HovedOrthoCenter (HOC), and the chief physician reports to the management of this centre. There is good cooperation and the opportunity for good sparring between the various department managements in HOC. The Department of Eye Diseases is the country's largest eye department. Patients are received from all over the Capital Region as well as from other regions of the country for highly specialized functions. The department is divided into professional teams that cover all subspecialties of ophthalmology. The headquarters are at Rigshospitalet in Glostrup, where the emergency eye care for the entire region is also located. The ophthalmology department is affiliated to the University of Copenhagen, Faculty of Health Sciences, with currently 5 clinical professors and 16 external clinical lecturers as well as 5-10 PhD students. The clinic has a research unit: the research unit for clinical eye physiology. The main areas are clinical eye physiology and pathophysiology as well as controlled clinical studies. As head doctor, your main tasks will be to: strengthen and further develop the department in collaboration with the head nurse, the senior doctors, as well as other managers and employees ensure high professional quality, involvement of patients and relatives and high patient satisfaction ensure high employee satisfaction and well-being strengthen professional management and, including, develop closer cooperation between general practice, specialist medical practice, private and public eye health actors, including opticians. It must be based on a higher degree of accessibility for professional advice and sparring, as part of the implementation of the Health Reform, preferably through image sharing, telemedicine solutions and AI, further develop solutions so that the department can project expertise very close to the patients, strengthen cross-sectoral patient processes, prevent hospitalizations, including medical support for the municipal (in the future regional) emergency functions and future health and care places to meet the region's target treatment in the personnel policy with regard to equal treatment regardless of gender, age, ethnic background, disability or religion. This is ensured, among other things, through the employment and training policy. Large management space and high ceilings As chief physician of a large department comes a large scope of opportunity, which also requires strong management skills. We are therefore looking for a chief physician with: Management experience and who has created documentable results Strategic sense and the ability to formulate a clear vision Ability to be able to develop and drive change processes, including creating meaning and companionship Focus on ethics, humanity and what benefits and creates value for the patient and translate this into clear values and actions by employees Strong collaboration and communication skills — both internally and in relation to the rest of the hospital and municipalities and general practice Clinical experience in handling complex ophthalmological patients. Region East In 2027, Region East is a reality. The chief doctor will be part of an exciting collaboration on the future of eye health in this new, large region. Positions in HovedOrtoCentret are covered by the executive order on obtaining children's certificates. It is therefore a prerequisite for employment that you have a blank child certificate. The center obtains the child's certificate from the Swedish National Police after the consent of the applicant. The workplace is non-smoking. The position is wanted to be filled by 1 July 2025.
