We are looking for a doctor to take care of selected patient courses in Clinical Genetics. Overall, the department is focused on three necessary elements in contributing to collaboration, and we work hard to create the best possible framework for this: Commitment to the task, good relationships and communication skills, and skilled professional expertise.
There is a good tradition of being able to work very flexibly in the unit – both with regard to meeting times, homework and how the working hours are placed during the week. We try different things.
Employment at the department is 37 hours per week without on-call function and takes place in accordance with the collective agreement between the Danish Regions and Younger Doctors.
A little about the Center for Clinical Genetics and Genomic Diagnostics
Region Zealand wants to strengthen the clinical genetic function and therefore has as of 1.1.2023 combined the specialty with the ambulatory function in clinical genetics and the interpretation function in genomic diagnostics in a new regional brick-and-mortar centre, which is in the process of recruiting and establishing itself as an interdisciplinary organization with several tasks. The center has a section management and is organized under the cross-geographical biochemical department management.
The purpose of the new center is to strengthen Region Zealand's citizens' access to genetic testing with regard to general genetic testing as well as testing for hereditary cancer in general, and also by implementing whole-genome sequencing for a number of patient groups, by using more precise diagnostics and more targeted use of medicine, customized monitoring and possibly specific prevention of disease in patients and their relatives.
There is a close professional collaboration with the Department of Genetics at Rigshospitalet, which handles the highly specialized investigation for the citizens of Region Zealand. And there is collaboration with the other laboratory specialties in relation to interpretation and knowledge as well as by making use of common infrastructure, common facilities, combined knowledge and delegated interest protection and representation.
The center currently houses a small outpatient clinical genetics unit with 5 genetic counselors with different professional backgrounds, 3 medical secretaries and currently 3 specialists in clinical genetics (senior doctors and ward doctors), who handle the outpatient evaluation of patients referred from the region's hospitals and from general practice for evaluation of hereditary diseases, including syndromes and hereditary cancer.
Until now, the unit handles main functional tasks according to the specialist plan. Highly specialized patient categories are checked on to Rigshospitalet, which is a close collaboration partner in the professional work. It is a mixture of face-to-face consultations and telephone consultations.
Both an outpatient genetic function and the rest of the center with the molecular biology function are expected to move to Zealand University Hospital in Køge at the beginning of 2026. About us
